A good resume is the first step in the right direction. After all, it is your door opener and it is the first opportunity for the potential employer to judge how well you present yourself. In order to prepare a good resume, there are some basic rules to follow:
Length

A resume should be a precise and concise document. As much as possible, a resume should not be more than three pages.
Content

Keep it clean and tidy. You should separate your resume into sections including personal information, qualifications and employment history. All the important information such as your current position and qualifications should be on the first page.
- Personal Information
Include your name, address, contact number and e-mail.
- Qualifications
List all the qualifications you have in chronological order, starting with the most recent one.
- Employment History
Start with the most recent position, including your job responsibilities, duration of employment and achievements. As much as possible, highlight your accomplishments in a bullet point format as it delivers a clearer and more powerful message.
Tailor Your Resume

Tailor the resume to the position you are applying to whenever possible. This may be time consuming, but it could help you clinch that job.
Layout

Layout and design should be consistent and easy to read, with good clear headings and fonts. Do not use fancy borders or coloured fonts as it does not add any value to your resume and often it demonstrates your lack of professionalism. Do write in plain English so that even non-technical interviewers can see what you have done.
